The Duhallow Angling Centre of Excellence was set up in 2012 by the Kanturk and District Trout Anglers to promote angling in the Duhallow area.
The Centre intends to promote and develop angling in the region among local people as well as the tourist angler. The angling centre has started a number of programmes to train local people in the art of angling and to help anyone interested in taking up angling to get started.
In 2012 a very successful angling summer camp for children was held as well as an introduction day to angling for landowners who live along the banks of the River Allow.
Flydressing classes for adults and children were held on Saturday mornings during the winter. The angling centre kicked off this year's programmes with a training day with well known casting instructor Glenda Powell on Friday last.
The class started at 10am and continued until 6pm and was very well attended throughout the day.
Glenda is considered to be the best casting instructor in the world and her talents rubbed off on those in attendance. Young boys and girls as well their mums and dads who had never caught a fishing rod before were soon casting like experts.
The Centre also wishes to acknowledge the help of IRD Duhallow and its very professional staff without whose help the centre could not have started up.
The Centre will continue the angling classes on a regular basis throughout the year and anyone interested in taking part can contact Tom Ankettell at 086-0827484.
