€65,000 allocated in grants for local community projects
FOUR local community based projects have been allocated a combined €65,000 by Cork County Council.
Ballyhooly Tennis Club has been granted €15,000 towards its new clubhouse, €20,000 was allocated to Kildorrery Community Development's new clubhouse, lighting for a village loop walk in Rathcormac was given to the village's Community Council while €20,000 was granted to the Mitchelstown Community Centre.
The grants were confirmed by the council's Fermoy Area Committee recently. The committee's members heard that while funding worth €95,000 was available, the majority of applications for funding were not applicable under the scheme and were more appropriate under the separate Amenity Grant scheme. The unspent €30,000 is to be transferred to this fund instead.
The Council's Director of Services Tom Stritch told the committee that of the 17 applications for the Community Grant, four were successful and 11 of the remaining 13 would be suitable under the Amenity Grant scheme.
These included applications from Fermoy CYMS, Fermoy Tidy Towns and Conna's Valley Rangers Football Club.
