ON May 1, over 100 students from McEgan College undertook a six mile sponsored walk around Macroom and the surrounding area.
All the students who took part were issued with a sponsorship card in the weeks leading up to the walk. When all the sponsorship money was returned and counted, a total of €1,550 had been raised – enough to send two McEgan College transition year students to Lourdes in June. Irene Murphy and Caitriona O'Donoghue are the two students who have been chosen to go to Lourdes on the Cloyne Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage.
The school wish Irene and Caitriona the very best and hope it will be both a rewarding and spiritual experience for them. Well done to all involved and to Mrs. Cait Clifford who is responsible for organising this extremely worthwhile venture every year.
Poetry in Motion
ON May 2, McEgan Transition Year Gaeilge students were fortunate enough to get a visit from the famous Irish poet and gaelgóir, Louis de Paor. Louis did a reading of some of his poetry and entertained students with tales of Rory Gallagher's visit to Macroom in 1978.
Students got to partake in a question and answering session with Louis and he gave them details of the BA in Irish Studies course that he teaches in NUI Galway. Many thanks to the Writers in Schools Project for helping the Irish Department to organise this visit.
