€10k raised for Cystic Fibrosis in table quiz

THE O'Connor family would like to thank most sincerely, everyone who supported their fund raising table quiz, for Cystic Fibrosis, in Rory's memory. The quiz night alone, raised a staggering €10,075.

They would also like to thank everyone who made this possible, by helping out on the night. This is indicative of the wonderful community spirit, in the Banteer/Lyre area. Together with other donations, the fund now stands at €20,020.


A very important meeting for all community groups in Banteer, Lyre, Nadd and surrounding areas at Glen Theatre on Monday, December 3, at 7.30pm to discuss Minister Hogans proposals to move the Leader funding 2014-2020 under the control of the County Councils which would be a major blow for the Duhallow region.

Leader funding is administered by IRD Duhallow at present who have a proven track record of delivering same for the benefit of all communities.


Fr Diarmuid Sheehan is returning to Ghana in a few weeks.Fr Diarmuid who is a priest in St Monicas Parish in Ghana is hoping to complete his new Church in the near future.

Banteer, Lyre, Nadd and Districts Community Council made a presentation of over €3,200 on behalf of Banteer/Lyre and Nadd community groups and individuals to help Fr Diarmuid complete his Church. Many thanks to all for your generous contributions.


Duhallow AC in association with Cork Sports Partnership, are pleased to announce that a Fit 4 Life programme will continue in Banteer Sportsfield/Park on Thursday next at 7.30pm sharp.

A fully qualified instructor from Athletics Ireland, will be on hand each Thursday night to help and aid with the group. Open to all adults in the Duhallow Region. Come along and bring a friend or two for an enjoyable experience.


The 48th annual Banteer ploughing match takes place on Sunday, December 2, by kind permission of Christopher and Ann-Marie Bourke, Castlemagner. Traffic from Mallow turn off at Longueville Cross and follow signs for Kanturk. Entries to be in by Friday, November 30, at 7pm. Contact Joe Twomey on ( 087) 9260852. Match commencing at 11.30am sharp.


Many thanks to all members who supported the draw and the Committee ask that all other walkers etc that use the facility support the fundraising draw in 2012 costing €100 p.a.

Tickets can still be purchased and can be paid in €25, €50 or €100 installments in cash, cheque, and direct debit with the next draw in December.


The Saxone Cup final is on Friday, November 30, at Turner's Cross and a bus will be going from Banteer-to book the bus you must pay a €5 deposit to officers with bus leaving Banteer at 5.45pm that evening, contact Karen O'Keeffe.


The local Macra na Feirme group presented the proceeds from their recent Mock Wedding to Suicide Aware Ireland last week.

The club raised €3500 for the charity and were delighted to present this to representatives for the charity.


Circuit training at Indoor Astroturf (Monday at 6pm and Thursday at 6pm). If interested contact Kevin on (087) 6308353 or call to gym. All are welcome to attend at cost of €3 per night.


Social badminton every Monday from 8pm to 10pm at Banteer Community Centre. It costs €3 per night, all welcome.


This Tuesday the jackpot is €2,650, total prizes will amount to €4,650.


There is a card drive every Thursday until Christmas at 8.30pm
