THE village of Castletownroche rolled back the years last Sunday as people basked in the sunshine and enjoyed a nostalgic trip down memory.

Visitors to the village sweltered in the summer sun as they enjoyed the sights and sounds of the annual Castletownroche Vintage Rally and Family Day.

The event was a pleasant reminder of summer's past as people finally got the chance to ditch their coats and lap up the good weather.

There was not a cloud in the sky, which proved distinct advantage for the many who took to the skies for a panoramic view of proceedings from the cockpit of the helicopter giving pleasure rides around the area.

On the ground there was also plenty to take in, including a display of vintage tractors, cars, bikes and engines all lovingly restored to their original condition by their proud owners.

While the young ones shrieked with delight at the bouncy castles and other kiddies attractions, the older members of the crowd were treated to a variety of fascinating 'old time' demonstrations including threshing, reaper and binding, bailing, ploughing and silage cutting.

The rally also offered people a welcome chance to find a bargain at the car boot sale or among the many trade stalls set up for the day.
