Party in pink in aid of breast cancer

THE Zumba with Suzanne group will hold a 'Party in Pink' in aid of breast cancer awareness at the Edel Quinn hall on Saturday, March 9, from 2pm - 4pm.

There will be no set fee at the door but people are asked to donate whatever they can afford. All proceeds will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society. No Zumba dance experience is necessary and all are welcome to join the fun and dance. Spot prizes will be up for grabs on the day.

Gospel choir at Vigil Mass

The Lorraine O'Riordan Gospel Choir will be singing at the 6.30pm Vigil Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday the 9th March.

Ladies golf

Kanturk Ladies Golf results,12 Hole Ongoing. Mary Moran(21) 25 pts.Round 1 Spring League, Bridget Mc Carthy 32 pts.Fixtures, Spring League Draw on Wednesday and Saturday at 11 a.m.14 Hole Ongoing.

Collection for school

A Church gate collection in aid of St Colman's Boys National School, Kanturk, will be held before all masses in Kanturk this weekend - Saturday 2nd February and Sunday 3rd February.

Soccer lotto

There was no winner of the jackpot in Kanturk Soccer Club's lotto draw last week, when the numbers drawn were 32, 25, 30, 34 the bonus number was 4.

The winner of the bonus number draw was Nora O'Donoghue, Lower Bluepool.

Next weeks jackpot will be €4,600 and the venue for the draw will be Dwyer's Bar, Strand Street.

Why not plant a long-lived tree? 

Andrew Collyer - Practical Gardening March 5 to 12 was National Tree Week. This is an awareness week organised by the Tree council of Ireland to promote all things trees. It has been an annual event since 1985 and should be embraced and celebrated with gusto in my opinion. Where the National tree week really becomes valuable is in schools where the education of the young in tree importance will hopefully produce a generation of responsible environmentally aware adults in the future.

The experience of losing them has taught me a direct personal lesson about grief.
