SHE may not be the Voice of Ireland, but teenager Kelly Mongan McDonagh still had a smile as wide as the River Blackwater after giving birth to a baby boy last Friday.

After 15 hours in labour Kelly gave birth to her 9lb 8oz son Michael Bernard, who was named after his father, at the Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The Fermoy girl sang her way into the hearts of the nation with stunning performances during the live stages of the talent competition despite being heavily pregnant.

In fact, she was almost a week overdue when she gave one of her best performances in the final of the competition before narrowly losing out to Charleville's Keith Hanley at the final hurdle.

Kelly is now looking forward to spending some valuable time with her family.

"It has been a great few weeks, God has been good. Everything has worked out but now I am just going to concentrate on taking care of my baby," she said.

"He's a dote. We are mad about him. The labour was hard but it was worth every minute," she added.
