Kanturk girl Teresa is the Chicago Rose

Chicago's Rose of Tralee contestant for 2017 is Kanturk girl Teresa Daly, who says "she is humbled to be representing Chicago at the 2017 Rose of Tralee Festival".

Teresa is 27 years of age and grew up in Kanturk with her parents, Charles, a local dairy farmer, and Brigid, a former nurse and proud Kilkenny woman, and has two older brothers.

Teresa was educated locally at Lismire National School and Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Kanturk. She completed a BSc Honours Food Science degree at University College Cork in 2013.

She joined the Kerry Group in Naas, Co. Kildare, through the graduate programme as a research and development scientist, and was offered the opportunity to relocate to the U.S. in 2015. She is based in Beloit, Wisconsin working as a technical business development manager.

She enjoys travelling, adventure and exploring new cultures. To date, she has visited 19 states across North America and has explored much of Europe and Asia.

One of her more memorable trips was volunteering as a youth helper, supporting the sick and elderly on the Cloyne Lourdes Pilgrimage.

She lives in the city of Madison surrounded by beautiful lakes, in the Midwest of America. She is a United Way volunteer in Wisconsin, working with local food pantries.

Teresa is also one of the founding members of the Madison Ladies Gaelic Football Club as well as a member of the 'Ireland Network Chicago', a business and social network for the Irish diaspora, as well as a committee member of the 'Professional Irish Women of Chicago Organization', where they organise events to honour the professional Irish women of Chicago.

She is looking forward to the year ahead, exploring the strong Irish links in Chicago and the Midwest of America. Teresa is really excited to be one of the participants in the Rose of Tralee festival, making new friendships and connections around the world, through fellow Roses, Rose Escorts and extended Rose families.
