The 61st North Cork Drama Festival got underway at Charleville community hall on last Friday night before a good attendance for the first night. Co. Tipperary's Moyne Drama Group started the festival with the John B. Keane-penned, evergreen play, 'Sive.' They were one of four groups competing in the confined section of the nine-night event.
Adjudicator Donal Courtney, A.D.A., will also judge five plays in the open section of the festival, which continues tonight (Thursday) with Haulbowline Theatre Group's production of 'Not Now Darling' by Ray Cooney and John Chapman and the Cobh company is competing in the open category.
The final night and presentation of awards is on this Saturday night at the Charleville Park Hotel. The final night play, 'The Hen Night Epiphany' by Jimmy Murphy starts at 7.30pm in the community hall. This play is not suitable for children.
