THE FIRST ever Nicola Barry Run for Cancer Care will take place on Sunday, October 6, in Stabannon, Co Louth.

This event is a 10k run and a 5k fun walk, that is being organised by Stabannon Ladies GFC.

The run has been named after Nicola Barry, the inspiring Stabannon Ladies footballer.

Nicola is a 25-year-old, hailing from Drogheda, who has been playing football with Stabannon Ladies GFC for the past number of years.

Last year, Nicola was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Following this shocking diagnosis, Nicola underwent surgery which removed 95 per cent of the tumour.

For nine gruelling months thereafter, Nicola underwent radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Fortunately, Nicola received the good news in June of this year that the tumour had not spread or grown back, and she has since returned to training and playing football with Stabannon Ladies.

A sub committee from Stabannon Ladies football team has come together with Nicola to organise this run with all of the proceeds from the run being donated to Cancer Care Charities of Nicola's choice.

Everyone, young and old, and of all fitness levels are encouraged to take part and support this great event on Sunday.

Entry costs €20 for the 10 km run, €10 for the 5k walk and family entry is available for €30.

Participants can register online on www.precisiontiming.net.

If you are not in a position to run or walk you can donate on the day or on line donations are also accepted.
