Chance to get 'Active' this autumn

CDYS ACTivate (Asperger's Children Together) is a social group for children with Asperger's Syndrome or high functioning autism. It is run by volunteer parents who all have experience of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) within their family.

The aim of the group is to encourage children to participate in fun activities in a nonjudgemental environment thus improving their social and communication skills. Sessions for the autumn are as follows:

Kidz Zone (5-10 years) – Wednesdays 6.157.15pm from November 7 at Mallow Youth Centre

Each week will have a different theme beginning on November 7 with Science Week, which will include fun experiments and games aimed at the inquisitive mind. On November 14 Art Week starts with various arts and crafts. Games Week starts on November 21 and includes all types of games which will encourage interaction and turn-taking etc. November 28 - Construction Week or "Girly" Week, featuring Lego, train track building etc or girly activities. December 5 is Music Week and people are encouraged to bring a musical instrument - it will also include singing, or making their own instrument. People can also bring their favourite CD. On December 12 a Christmas party will be held and children can dress up in costume if they wish and get involved in fun and games of their own choice

TeenScene (10-18years) is on Wednesdays from 7.30 – 9pm on November 7 at Mallow Youth Centre. This is a more unstructured group where the children can take part in pool, WII games, play music, computers, art & crafts, cards and other games and photography.

Whilst the children are busy, parents are free to meet other families for a chat and a cuppa to share experiences, provide support and swap information.
