Voting under way in Macroom Person of the Year awards

VOTING is underway to choose Macroom's Person of the Year 2013.

The third annual event honouring locals for their contribution to their community will be held in the newly reopened Riverside Park Hotel on Saturday, May 25 and organisers are already seeking nominations across a number of categories.

The categories are Junior Sportspersons of the Year, Senior Sportspersons of the Year, Voluntary Workers of the Year in Sports, Voluntary Worker of the Year for Charity and lastly Overall Macroom Person of the Year.

Previous winners of the overall award are Peggy Curtis of Macroom, well known for her work with Rainbows, and Breda Duggan, former town clerk and tireless worker for animal rescue.

Voting is now open and will continue until midnight on Friday, May 24.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony the following night where music will be provided by Clondrohid's 'Simple Complications'.

The awards ceremony will include a wine reception on arrival, finger food and a DJ from 11.30pm until 1.30 am. A free shuttle service will operate between the square in Macroom and the hotel and this year's ticket price has been reduced to €12 from €15. Those preferring to come late to the nightclub will only pay €5 from 110pm.

The event is run by Pat Melia of mymacroom.com in association with The Riverside Park Hotel. A few unsuspecting guests will also be surprised with awards for their contributions to sport and the work they do for youth in the area. For more details contact Pat on 087 3520351.
