Junior Hurling

Kilshannig 4-09 Castlemartyr 2-06

Kilshannig earned their first win of the Avondhu/Imokilly Division 1 Hurling League with a deserved victory over Castlemartyr at Glantane on Tuesday night. The wet and slippery conditions made life difficult for both teams but to their credit the sides served up a decent encounter. Kilshannig held a solitary lead at the break, 1-5 to 1-4 but upped their performance significantly in the second period. Castlemartyr got off to a great start with a first minute goal but Kilshannig replied well.

Killian O'Hanlon impressed throughout and opened Kilshannig's account while Cian Nagle and Trevor O'Regan also found the target. The home side received a further boost when O'Hanlon's 65 went all the way to the Castlemartyr net to put his side a point to good at half time. Kilshannig extended their lead after the break as they began to dominate especially in defence with Conor Casey, Ian Twomey and Darragh Mahoney excelling. They added a goal early in the half with John Quinn scoring from close range before David Ruby found the net midway throughout the half to put his side into a strong position. With O'Hanlon and Nagle pointing also, Kilshannig moved further ahead and never looked like losing their lead. In the closing stages, the sides traded a goal each, Quinn netting his second, as Kilshannig secured their first win of the campaign.

Kilshannig: K O'Hanlon 1-5 (1-1 65, 0-2 frees), J Quinn 2-0, D Ruby 1-0, C Nagle 0-3, T O'Regan 0-1.
