SOME of Cork's top singers and musicians are set to take part in a very special lunchtime session on the platform of Mallow train station next Tuesday.
For the fourth year in succession the RTE Big Music Week will be celebrating the very best of home grown musical talent, staging live gigs across Ireland which will be broadcast across the globe online, over the airwaves and on television. This year the state broadcaster has joined forces with Irish Rail to come up with a new and novel way of ensuring as many people as possible are able to join in the fun.
The Big Music Train, complete with its house band, will traverse the length and breadth of the country bringing music to the masses as its stops off at stations along the way.
Next Tuesday the train will arrive in Mallow with musicians including John Spillane, Ger Woulfe and Gavin Moore set to play sets on the station platform.
Best of all, admission is free.
After Mallow the Big Music Train will travel onto Killarney when more musicians, including Lumiere and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, will join the Cork contingent for a gig at the INEC.
The progress of the Big Music Train can be followed online throughout the week at www.rte.ie/bigmusicweek.
