A Fermoy man has donated his caricature of TV3 current affairs host Vincent Browne to Cork's Simon Community for a fundraising auction.

Donal O'Keeffe told The Corkman that the idea of drawing Vincent Browne came from a friend who had admired some of his other works.

"I then decided that if I'm to do something silly I may as well make a few bob out of it for a good cause," Donal said.

Donal sent the drawing to TV3 to have the man himself sign it, and Mr Browne obliged accordingly.

"There were no reported fatalities," Donal joked of the signing of the caricature.

The picture, which was autographed this week, is on its way back to the Rebel County and will be auctioned at the Cork Simon Community's Annual Ball which will be held in March.

A friend of Donal's has already offered him €200 for the portrait, and so that has been set as the reserve price when the picture goes under the hammer for a very worthy cause.

The Cork Simon Community provides 118 beds, 365 days a year.

The charity reported that throughout 2012 some 1,000 people turned to Cork Simon for help. Some 410 people stayed at its Emergency Shelter, which was full every night, over 200 people attended over 2,000 appointments at its Day Service and 157 people were supported by Cork Simon's housing projects.
