Not only is Donoughmore home to this year's Cork Rose, the mid-Cork parish is also preparing for its annual carnival this month.
The 44th Donoughmore Carnival takes place from Thursday to Sunday, July 18-21, and as well as the usual funfair amusements and vintage displays, Cork Rose Edel Buckley will be on hand on Sunday to meet and greet supporters.
Athletes and fun runners alike will all be glad to see the return of the Donoughmore Seven Mile Road Race on the Friday along with the one mile fun run.
After the race the community will be marking the year of The Gathering by burying a time capsule prepared by the primary and play schools of the parish.
Video messages with greetings and well wishes from Donoughmore people around the world will also be played over the weekend.
Saturday night is ladies night, which includes a salsa lesson with Mexican finger food and cocktails beforehand, as well as an all-ladies tug of war event.
Sunday will see the inter-parish youth tug of war competition followed by the Tug of War Munster Championship taking place at 2pm.
Also present on Sunday will be the farmer's market, novelty games, vintage display and sheaf tossing event and new activities like laser clay pigeon shooting and a small animal's corner.
Sunday will finish up with the finals of the inter-townland tug of war and soccer tennis finals, followed by the popular bring your own beverage BBQ with O'Crualaoi's butchers.
This year gate prices have been reduced to just €5 per person when prepaid in local businesses, or €7 per person on the day.
