The Official Opening of our newly extended Heritage Centre took place on Friday night last with a capacity crowd in attendance.

The premises which will now be known as Cois Alla Cultural Centre was blessed by Fr. Eamonn McCarthy, C.C. and officially opened by Con Herbert who was the founding Chairman of Comhaltas in Freemount on March 3 1983.

A number of presentations were then made to Con. The first was made by the local Comhaltas Branch, then by Con McCarthy Chairman Cork Co. Board of Comhaltas. Tadhg O Maolcatha, Chairman Munster Council of Comhaltas presented Con with a special "60"Gradam medallion (commemorating the founding of Comhaltas Nationally in 1951) on behalf of Labhras O Murchu Ardstiúrthóir of Comhaltas who was unable to attend.

He was also presented with a painting on behalf of the local Art Group. The nights celebrations concluded with a lovely tea and refreshments for all and a group of musicians, singers and dancers entertained the crowd into the early hours.

A sincere thanks to all who helped prepare the food and provide the tea and refreshments and who worked during the day as well as serving the food on the night. A special thank you to all the members of FAS who had worked hard over the past several weeks to make sure that the building and the surrounding area was in excellent condition which was a credit to this group of dedicated FAS workers.
