A GROUP of Aghinagh teenage singers has made it through to the televised stages of Scór Encore on TG4 after impressing the judges in trial auditions.
The group were taken aback by the news when they received conformation they had progressed onto the shortlist for the next phase of the competition. Group members comprising Kiara Leahy, Ellen Lucey, Abigail Watson, Sarah and Sheila Twomey enter the studios on Thursday, January 30 for filmed rehearsing, given advice from three adjudicators prior to a recorded show that will also include diverse acts ranging from instrumental music, sean nos, solo singing to set and figure dancing.
Fingers are crossed that the Aghinagh balladeers can win the votes to go forward to a semi-final next month.
The group assembled initially to participate in the Muskerry Scór na bPaiatí, singing and dancing on representing Rusheen National School for five years.
"Its nice to be able to continue at an older level representing their parish of Aghinagh. Taking part in Scor na nOg is now a way of meeting once again as we go to different secondary schools and have other interests", said the girls.
"We are delighted to be chosen to appear on Scor Encore as it gives them an opportunity to appear on television representing our local club".
Speaking on behalf of the parents Nancy Leahy commended the Aghinagh Ballad Group on their rise to prominence.
"We are so proud of the girls dedication and hard work and this being their first year singing together at a higher level, coming 2nd in the County Scor na nÓg and now appearing on Scór Encore is a great achievement for all five teenagers", she said.
