2013 starts with a bang at Opera House

CORK Opera House has put together an eclectic and exciting programme of events over the coming weeks to help stave off those post- Christmas blues.

The New Year will kick off proper at the venue on Sunday, January 20 with the return of Ronan Collins and his Reeling in the Showband Years show.

Once again the show will feature a stellar line up, including the legendary Dickie Rock, Gloria, The Conquerers, DJ Curtin, Lorraine McDonald, Eurovision stars Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg and Mark 'Emerald Elvis' Leen.

On Thursday, January 24 comedian Jason Byrne will bring his hilarious People's Puppeteer to the Opera House.

The following night Bounce Back will feature a night of jazz, soul, funk and hip-hop in the company of artists including Grenade Cork, the Roaring 40s, the Booty Band, Karen Underwood and Stevie G.

Their will be a change of pace the following night when internationally acclaimed soprano Cara O'Sullivan returns to her home city for an eagerly anticipated concert.

On Thursday, January 31 cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, the brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber, will bring his ' Travels with My Cello' to the Opera House for what promises to be a magical night of classical music followed by a question and answer session.

February at the Opera House will kick off with an evening in the company of singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright on Friday 1st, with Tommy Fleming making a welcome return to the venue the night after.

The venue will be alive to the Sound of Music from February 8 - 17 with the return of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most enduring stage musical.

The musical will take a break on Sunday, February 10 for the visit of My Brother Joe, a poignant tribute to the late, great Joe Dolan, featuring his brother Ben and Ben's daughter, Sandra, and two sons, Adrian and Raymond.

Comedian Tommy Tiernan will bring his World Tour of Cork show to the Opera House for four nights from February 21, while American folk legend John Prine will bring the month to a close at the venue with a gig on Monday 25.
