CARLOW under-19's travelled to play Roscrea/birr for a semi final with a good side and a lot of hope on Saturday but came away losing by 22 points to 15.
The game was lost in the first half when Carlow failed to take sufficient advantage of the strong wind and the slope on the Roscrea pitch, only leading by 8pts to 3 at half time. Carlow scores came from a Michael Mannion try and a penalty by outhalf Kevin Healey.
From the start of the second half the Roscrea number 10 on home ground played the corners.
They squeezed over for two converted tries to Carlow's one by number 8 Diarmuid Hickey.
In a game high in skill, Roscrea's number 8, an Irish international, was well marshalled by the Irish backrow, especially Barry Farrell.
Another converted try from Carlow would have brought the replay back to Oakpark but sadly on the day it wasn't to be.
