SOME 400 primary school children are expected to take the field in a Primary School Blitz on Friday June 15 as part of the Play Tag Festival in Carlow.
Organised by the Carlow Rugby Club, the Guinness World Record breaking attempt will look at beat the Festival record previously set in Hong Kong in 2010.
The 400 children will be drawn from 15 primary schools enjoying the Tag Rugby Festival during the day on Friday 15 June. Pupils so far have been drawn from Carlow Educate Together National School, Myshall National School, Arles, Killeshin, Askea Boys, Bagnesltown St Marys, St Fiacccs, Carlow National School, Killeen and Model School Athy.
Festival organizer Shannon Brown, welcomes the young athletes.
"It will be a great day out for the youngsters and super for them to be part of the record breaking attempt. Also, the children, their siblings and parents can go on to enjoy the Family Fun Day the next day on Saturday held in conjunction with the Festival," she said.
The festival will have a extensive food and shopping area, including arts and crafts, sweet shop, Eddie Rockets, candy floss, handmade jewellery and many more attractions
"We want to invite everybody to come along and have a fabulous day out with the family on Saturday: enjoy our activities and watch the matches," added Shannon.
"Friday night will be also free of charge for the celebrity match so we can raise funds for charity. After that, the music gigs, camping and bar area will be strictly for over 18s."

The tag rugby teams will take to the pitch on Saturday 16th June. There will be all-day entertainment on Saturday, with DJs and music brought by Pete Fagan and The Troubadours, The Waxies, Roisin Dubh and Justin Kelly.
