CARLOW trainer Willie Mullins conjured up some magic at the weekend when Simenon recorded a double at Royal Ascot.
Ridden by Ryan Moore the five-year-old was given a dazzling ride in the Queen Alexandra Stakes on Saturday after clinching victory in the Ascot Stakes earlier in the week
Always travelling nicely in the Queen Alexandra Stakes, Moore had to sit and wait up the rail rounding the home turn, and for a while it looked like he would be denied a clear run at a crucial stage.
But delivered from his pocket two furlongs out, the five-year-old absolutely stormed clear to beat Shahwardi by seven lengths.
'You always hope you might get a winner here and it's great when you do, but to get two at the same meeting is even better," said the Closutton based trainer.
'Much of the credit goes to his lad, Martin, who has done a fantastic job getting him to eat and drink, and while he was free for Ryan on Tuesday, he was so much more settled this time. We'll keep going on the Flat with him,' added Mullins.
