MYSHALL KILMESSAN (MEATH)
MYSHALL CAMOGIE CLUB retained their Leinster club Junior title defeating Kilmessan of Meath by four points in a top class Leinster final replay at St. Laurence's GAA grounds Ballytore on Saturday.
Two goals from Ciara Quirke gave Myshall a great start. Undaunted, Kilmessan were back on level terms at the end of the first quarter and they had opened up a four point lead four minutes before the break. However Myshall rallied as Ciara Quirke sent a sizzler to the Kilmessan net to trail by a point at half time, Kilmessan 2-5, Myshall 3-1.
Kilmessan stretched their lead to three points in the second period and Myshall hadn't scored for 22 minutes, however they came good with points from Kate Nolan and the leveller from Allision Ruschitzko to leave the score Myshall 3-4, Kilmessan 2-7 after full time.
Into extra time then and there was only one score in the first 10 minutes, that coming from Kate Nolan but it was so important
Three minutes in to the last period and Kilmessan's Aileen Donnelly had the sides level for the fourth and last time.
Myshall edged two points clear courtesy of Kate Nolan and Ciara Quirke and a huge cheer greeted Catherine Foley's super goal two minutes from the end to open up a five point lead and the cup was on its way back to Myshall.
In their long career this was probably one of Myshall's best performances ever, especially in the extra time. Kilmessan are a fine side however it was Myshall's heart and spirit that stood them in good stead in a wonderful replay
Player of the match
Ciara Mullins was in the forwards in defence at midfield where she caught the sliothar time and time again high in the air amongst a barrage of hurleys and scored a goal. She was outstanding and was presented with her player of the match award.
