SENIOR HURLING: Borris Senior hurlers played Ballyhale in the Leinster 'A' Vocational Schools Championship on Tuesday 27th November.
After heavy rain on the previous day, conditions were very slippery underfoot for both teams. The opening half was a tough , hard fought game ,with both teams showing exceptional individual performances. B.V.S' half back line work rate was very good with centre back Diarmuid Byrne leading the way, however Ballyhale's half back line were equally strong. This proved inself in Borris forwards finding it hard to get scores. However when the scores came they looked very impressive, with a first half score line of 1-8 to 1-4 Borris were just ahead.Scores came from Michael O'Grady ,Martin Kavanagh and a scramble goal by Seán Murphy kept Borris in the lead at half time.
In the second half Borris seemed more settled. Even though they were playing into a strong wind scores seemed easier to come by. This was due to a decisive move to put Martin Kavanagh out on the wing and move Ger Coady into centre forward. Some excellent scores ensued with Jack Murphy and Diarmuid Byrne linking up with Martin Kavanagh, whose speed and agility opened up the Ballyhale defense.
His unselfish delivery of accurate ball to Michael O' Grady ended in two exceptional goals. He again linked up with Seanie Whelan and the ball ended up in the back of Ballyhale's net once more-Borris' fourth of the day. Points came from Seanie Whelan, Ger Coady and the accurate free taking of Martin Kavanagh saw Borris win on a score line of Borris 414 to Ballyhale 1-10.
This means Borris are now top of the table and a Lenster semi-final place has been booked.
A great performance overall, however Micheal Malone, Conor Foley, Diarmuid Byrne, Jack Murphy, Martin kavanagh, Ger Coady and Micheal O'Grady were excellent in the maroon and white jerseys. Well done to the boys and to their team mentors Mr Buckley, Mr Dela hunty, Mr Walsh and Mr Lonergan.
