Payne leads Irish team to cross country title

FIVE CARLOW athletes all from Tinryland A.C. won individual and team medals at the British and Irish Masters cross country championships in Belfast on Saturday 10th November.
Pride of place goes to Tommy Payne who won individual bronze and led the Irish team to victory in the M50 category.
Tommy finished on the heels of the individual winner Graham Saker of England and runner up Deon McNeilly of Northern Ireland over the 8km course at Queens University playing fields.
In the M35 category Pat Byrne ran a fine race to finish 7th overall helping Ireland to gold in that grade also. John Joe Murphy finished 7th in the M60 grade helping Ireland to silver in the team category while Denis Shannon and Eddie Walsh were scoring members on Irish bronze medal winning squads at M65 and M55 levels respectively. Teams representing England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland took part in the event.
