Handballers kick off Leinster championships with promising results

CARLOW players started the 2013 season with good wins in the Leinster 40x20 championships.
Martin Mullins got over the first hurdle in the Minor singles when he defeated Dylan Sheridan from Meath in two straight games 21-7 21-8.
In the Junior B singles Kevin Barrett had two good wins he defeated Corey Fay (D) in the first round 21-4, 21-6 and John Doyle (WX) 21-10, 21-13 in the second round. Barry Ramsey in the JBS had a close encounter with Jason Murphy (WX) but came out on top 21-18, 2115.
Meanwhile in the Junior singles grade Daniel Fenlon had to be at his best to defeat Noel Murphy (O) 21-18, 21-18 and in the JD Oliver Ryan and Daniel Fenlon had a titanic struggle with Felix Doran/Paddy Berry (WX) winning in a three-game thriller on a score line of 2118, 19-21, 21-18.
Oliver Ryan continued his winning habit when he defeated Robert Byrne (WX) in the O-35S 21-7, 21-9 and in the masters there were wins for Martin Clancy over Tom O'Malley (WW) 21-6, 21-8 while Andy Ryan defeated Jim Doyle (WX) 21-9, 21-10.
In the JBD Richard Delaney/Steve Doyle lost to Wexford, Aaron Geoghegan/Kevin Barrett were on the wrong end of their JBD match against Meath pair Peter Flanagan/Michael Sheridan losing 21-10, 21-10, Sean Ryan lost his EMAS match against Eamon Purcell (KK) 21-18 in the third game.
On the handball social scene Carlow Handball Board will hold its adult presentation night in Doyle's Railway Bar, Bagenalstown on Saturday February 2 at 8pm.
The hall of fame and special achievement awards will be presented with other county winners.
