Carlow squash stars shine at Senior Open

CARLOW'S Senior squash players travelled to Sligo this weekend for the Connacht Senior Open and it was a very productive weekend for the three combatents.
Arthur Gaskin continued his vice like grip on Senior squash when he defeated Derek Ryan (Dublin) comfortably in a 3/0 win.
Gaskin recently moved clubs in the UK where he is based and he showed only positive signs of his continued upward drive.
Rory Byrne finished 3rd and we are begining to see signs of young Rory's consistancy at maintaining pressure on his opponents throughout games.
Brian Byrne a brother to Rory and who is just back playing competively this season almost pulled of the shock of the season when he held Derek Ryan to 3/2 in his first round game. Brian went on to win the Plate and finish 9th overall.
We could see Carlow Senior men really dominate the top positions in a couple of years and with three finishing in the top 9 of a major open it's not that far off.
Meanwhile back in the club the final of the Junior Saturday league took place and what a final we had two teams of three players all playing their hearts out.
In the end the team of Brendan Perry, Cliodhna Ní Shé and Rory O'flaherty proved too strong for Joe Jennings, David Lalor, Fionn Mc Caffrey. Well done to all
