A well attended Ballon GFC annual meeting reviewed the club's poorest season (2012) for many years, both on and off the field. The break-in at Fr Flood House late in the year was a major disappointment as was the club's inability to reach the knockout stage of the Intermediate Football championship.

The meeting opened with an expression of sympathy with both the Maher and Mc Evoy families on their recent sad bereavements.

Chairman, John Kelly in his opening address, pointed out that the club had a very poor start to last season and intimated that this could not be allowed to happen again this year. Thanking the members of the club committee for their dedication John pointed out that the committee is a twelve month tenure while the playing season was approximately seven months.

The chairman thanked all who had worked for the club as team managers, players and selectors, and in any other capacity throughout the season and with regard to the clubhouse repair fund informed the meeting that cash donations of over €1,500 had been received from other organisations including one particular generous donation of €500. For these donations he thanked profusely all the clubs and organisations involved.

John also paid particular thanks to clubman Martin Barry who had carried out all the repair work on the heating system at no cost to the club and to Dick Fitzgerald who supplied and erected the new fire door in the boiler house.

The chairman congratulated all the other club's in the parish on their successes throughout 2012 and wished all of them well in the coming season. Winding up his address John noted the contributions that Liam Brennan is making to the county minor team and equally Lar O'Sullivan on the Knockbeg senior team and congratulated Thomas Daly on his outstanding performance on the Ireland U-20 rugby team the evening before.

Secretary, Billy Fanning gave the meeting a full and frank rundown of the club's activities throughout the year, paying special thanks to Michael O'Toole, James Dowling, John Murphy and Liam Buggy for their dedication to the club's weekly lotto and also to the consistent top seller of these tickets, Pat Doyle.

Billy indicated that the club needed to improve on the fitness level and scoring power if success is to come our way in the future and wished new trainer Alan Kelly every success in 2013. A full copy of the secretary's report is available on the Ballon Village website,

Treasurer Michael O'Toole gave the meeting a very detailed report on the club's finances throughout last year and thanked everyone who had made financial contributions and contributions in kind to the club. Michael also thanked Dion Zerafa for his assistance in compiling the balance sheet and for his continuing contribution to the club throughout the year.

OFFICERS FOR 2013: There were no major changes of the club's officers except for the position of ASAP Officer where Niall McCaffrey takes over from the retiring Liam Buggy.

The new committee for 2013 is Hon. Life President, Fr Edward Whelan PE; vice presidents, Fr Brendan Howard PP, Pat Gittens, Michael Dawson, John Kelly, Marty Barry, John Blanche, Dan Jordan and Tommy Maher; chairman, John Kelly; vice chairman, James Dowling; deputy vice-chairman, Danny Lewis; secretary, Billy Fanning; membership officer, Shane Byrne; treasurer, Michael O'Toole; assistant treasurers, John Murphy, Liam Buggy and Dion Zerafa; PRO, John Kelly; County Board Delegate, Michael O'Toole; Convention Delegates John Kelly and Billy Fanning; registrar, Billy Fanning; ASAP, Niall McCaffrey and Irish Officer, Máire George.
