WAS held in Osborne's Lounge, Clonegal, on Sunday, 13th July.

There were no winners for the jackpot of €7,200. Numbers drawn were 5, 16, 18 and 26. Winner matched three were Carol Coleman, Minnie Roberts, Sarah Cox, and Lillie Byrne, all receiving €40 each. Seller's prize goes Martin Byrne. Winners of the attendance draw were Kevin Osborne, Timmy Farrell and Mark O'Neil. Next draw will take place at in Ryan's "The Moss House", Bunclody on Sunday 27th July with a jackpot of €7,400.


Celtic Stars held their AGM recently and the officers elected were: Chairperson; Pat Murphy, Secretary; Tom Ryan, Vice-Chair; Mark Egan, Treasurers; Robert Ryan and Eugene Kenny and PRO; Jonathan Dunne. The manager for season is Keith Byrne assisted by coaches Johnny Watchorn and Raymond Murphy. The winner of the World cup competition was Pauline Coleman from Kildavin who received €400. Training continues on Fridays with friendlies on Sundays.


The Drama Summer School will take place for 6 - 12 year olds in the Spellman Park Kildavin during the week beginning 11th August for five mornings from l0.00am to 1.00pm. Bunclody Kilmyshall drama group are performing their hilarious one act comedy in Redmond's Loft on Monday 28th July -Friday 1st August (inclusive). The play is called 'A Night to Remember' by Jimmy Keary. The director is Mary Gibson. Tickets are €7 & €5 (concession) and are available on the night. Clonegal Car Boot Sale will be held in the Ben Mulhall Complex, Clonegal on Sunday 10th August 2014. Gates will open to the public at 10.00am. Sellers can set up from 9.30am. The history of gardening is explored in this lecture using the formal gardens of Huntington castle as a case study. View the 17th century parterre, ornamental lakes, fish pounds and yew tree walks, one of the oldest in the country in the company of the Helen Dillon, world renowned plants expert, broadcaster and garden author. This case study will be held on Sunday 27th July at 12noon. Admission €5.

Ushers: Ted and Rian Kennedy. The reception was held in Mount Wolseley, Tullow and the honeymoon is being spent in South East Asia.

Sincere thanks to all who made our recent Solemn Novena so successful. Over 200 people from our parish ministered in some way at the Novena and all our guest speakers and many visitors commented on the great community and parish spirit.


As part of the Laois Walk's Festival an 8k walk through Rossmore Forest will take place on Sunday July 27 at 2.30pm. The walk will be starting and finishing at Oisín Park. Entry Fee €2.

It's the start of the new season and training for 'A' and 'B' teams has commenced on Monday nights at 7.30pm and new players are very welcome. Free kids Fun Soccer Camp and Juvenile registrations will take place on Saturday 26 July at Killeshin soccer pitch from 11am to 4pm. Whist night that runs on Wednesdays will take a summer break until early September and they would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported the whist.

Holy Cross Church was renovated in 1964 and this year is the 50 Anniversary of that restoration. Mass will be celebrated next Sunday 27th July at 10.15am for all who were involved in the work.

Young Adult Pilgrimage open to any young people aged 18 and upwards. They will be travelling to Glendalough for an overnight stay on Monday 11th August and returning on Tuesday 12 August and it's open to all young people, 18 to 35 years. Youth Pilgrimage Day Trip to Kildare, Open to First to Sixth Year Students on Thursday 31st July. What to expect; mixing with other teenagers, a tour of St Brigid's Cathedral, a prayer service around St Brigid's well, climbing the round tower and a celebration of the Eucharist together in St Brigid's Church. Afterwards they will go to Whitewater Shopping Centre for some shopping, food and finish with a movie in the Odeon cinema. Cost is €15 due by Monday 28 July.


Camp 5, 28th July to 1st August, Camp 6, 4th August to 8th August. The camps are on Monday to Friday inclusive from 6pm to 6.45pm and costs €35 per child Bookings are being taken in the pool office and a deposit of €20 is required to secure a place.

Elvis Presley Great Great Grandfather lived in Hacketstown before immigration to America. An Elvis weekend in now planned for Hacketstown, this will take place in October with lots of events planned, the is in conjunction with Carlow Tourism and the CRISP centre and Historian Michael Purcell and Hacketstown community. If any want to get involved contact the CRISP centre or come along to the meeting on Tuesday (today) at 10. 30am.

St Patrick's National School will hold a fundraising cycling event on Sunday 5th October (not 14th September as advertised in local papers, due to Orla Jackman's cycle).

Three routes are available to suit all fitness levels, 100km, 50km and family route of approx 10km. Details can be found on 'Edward Nolan Cycling Challenge' Facebook page. So please get out your bike and get training.


Rathvilly Community Alert will be holding their Annual Churchgate Collection on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th July in aid of funds towards care units for the elderly of the parish and those living alone.

This is the only fund-raising effort we are involved in and we are hoping that parishioners will be as generous to the collection as they have in the past. Many families in the parish have a relative who is a recipient of a care unit and we encourage this, and would urge people to let us know of any person who they think would benefit from having these units which give their older relatives comfort and protection. Please contact any member of our committee.

Bishop Nulty has announced the 2014 Diocesan changes which includes creating three new deaneries from the previous seven deaneries - Kildare and Leighlin North, West and South.

As part of the changes which will come into effect from September 1st 2014, there will be a number of appointments in relation to the local parish. Having moved to the Tinryland area in 2011, Rev. Liam Morgan CC has now been appointed as CC in Naas Parish. Rev Fr Alex Kochatt and newly ordained Rev. Sean Hyland have both been appointed to Askea/Bennekerry/Tinryland Parishes.
