CALLS have been coming in from across the country from people offering homes for nine adorable young pot-bellied pigs found abandoned on Mount Leinster.
Jackie Polson of South East Animal Rescue is therefore confident that good homes with caring owners will be found for each of the dumped piglets in due course. Meanwhile, the porky pets, believed to be no more than three months old, have been enjoying temporary accommodation in a shed near Clonroche.
The baby pigs, which were dumped in a forested area on Tuesday evening, were spotted by two women out walking their dogs. The two ladies noticed a man getting back in to his car with a large empty box and saw the pigs running loose.
By the time they got down from the mountain darkness had fallen on the area and South East Animal Rescue had to wait until the following morning before they could locate the animals in the forest.
'We had to just hope that they would survive the night,' said Jackie Polson, from South East Animal Rescue.
' Throughout Wednesday a team traipsed up and down the area. Seven were located but we couldn't catch the other two until the following day.
