Two Carlow families were left devastated on Friday as two men were killed in a horrific crash just outside Carlow town.
The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were the driver and passenger on a motorbike travelling on the main Carlow to Portlaoise Road.
They were named locally as Thomas Hurley and Thomas McCormack.
The accident took place between 5.30 and 6 a.m. near Arles and the Laois border, when the motorbike they were travelling on collided with a van.
The road was immediately sealed off and a full examination was carried out by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to determine the cause of the accident. Investigations are said to be ongoing and Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to make themselves known at Portlaoise Garda Station.
