GARDAI ARE investigating a major theft in Carlow town on Sunday when an almost five-figure sum of cash was stolen in the middle of the day.
The substantial amount was taken from Goldrush casino in the heart of Tullow Street at 1.30 p. m. An attendant sitting in the booth inside the casino was distracted by three males. When she left the booth one of the males stepped inside and stole the money before all three fled on foot. Gardaí believe the males may be Eastern European.
Meanwhile, the occupants of an A BMW car stolen from a house on the Green Lane were later involved in standoff with eight patrol cars and a Garda helicopter.
Two cars, a black X5 BMW estate and a 02 Audi V70 estate, were taken from a house at Woodbrook Place, Green Lane, early on Wednesday morning at some stage between midnight and 4 a. m. On Sunday, gardaí from Ballyfermot noticed the BMW and four males acting suspiciously at the West County Hotel in Lucan. Three of the males, all from the Ballyfermot area, were arrested and charged with the unauthorised carriage in vehicle and they were remanded on bail.
