The Futsal team who did the community of Askea and Carlow proud at the Futsal Championships in Longford.

THE Askea Girls U13 Futsal team returned home to a hero's welcome this week after they managed to finish runner-up at the Leinster Futsal Championships.

The event took place in Longford and the girls were delighted to travel up and represent both Askea and Carlow as they took on some of the finest players in the country. In the end, the only team who proved too difficult for them were a great Navan side who defeated them in the final.

The girls were delighted to add the accessory of a silver medal to their new jerseys which were sponsored by Askea Pharmacy and Luigi's. Unfortunately Navan's might was just too much for the girls when it came to the final and they were beaten by a score of 7-1, Beth Evesson getting on the score sheet for Askea.

Despite the result in the final, the girls have cemented their place as one of Leinster's finest futsal teams and they have trained extremely hard each week to get to this point.

The team of Kayleigh Shannon (Captain), Beth Evesson, Jessica Cahill, Lily Gaffney, Lan Gaffney, Katie Collins Byrne, Cariosa Morahan and Siobhan Rossiter played their hearts out in the competition, to the great pride of coach's Liz Murphy and John Cleary.
