Beauty salon owner Kassy makes her pitch to potential investors on Dragon’s Den

PEOPLE in the Tullow area may have noticed a familiar face on their screens recently as Tullow beauty salon owner Kassy Lucas had the daunting task of making a pitch to the Dragons on RTE's 'Dragons Den'.

Kassy entered into the den hoping to secure an investment of €60,000 in exchange for 20% equity in her business Decadence Tan, which currently provides high end tanning solutions to the Irish market.

The process was a lot longer than Kassy had imagined, but she says that she's glad she took part even though none of the Dragons took her up on her offer to invest.

'It's tough going,' she said. 'I had to go through four rounds before I got into the Den to make my pitch. The process started back in November and then I gave my pitch on February 4, so I suppose there's a lot that the camera doesn't see.' On the show, we saw some of the Dragons appearing rather harsh towards Kassy and her product, however, she says that it wasn't really like that at all. 'I was really nervous just before I went in,' she said. 'But after I gave my pitch I relaxed and calmed down. I was in there for about 45 minutes and I got some really great feedback from Eamon in particular, but they didn't show a whole lot of that because I suppose it didn't make great television.'

Despite the disappointment of leaving the Den without an investor, Kassy says that she is glad she took part and it has been a great experience. 'Fortunately it wasn't make or break going in there, she says, 'our tan is still listed as "Best Tan for Body" and features in lots of magazines and it's selling really well. I suppose the best thing is that we've got great publicity out of it and we're getting lots of calls and interaction on social media as a result of our appearance.'
