A GROUP of local musicians are putting their talents to good use by hosting a dancing and cabaret night in aid of one of the most deserving charities, the Make A Wish Foundation. For the last five years, a group of musicians, who play in Kelly's pub in Ballickmoyler every Saturday night, get together to fundraise for their chosen charity.
Bridget Farrell, one of the organisers explained: 'Usually, a group of local artists come together and have a bit of a sing-song in Fairgreen for a few hours over Christmas but this year we decided to go even bigger. The Dolmen Hotel has kindly donated the venue for free and so we are going to make a night of it.'
The night will also see the prince of country music John Hogan and his band take to the stage.
Bridget said: 'In the past, we have fundraised for deserving charities such as the Guide Dogs for the Blind and in the last three years we have focused on fundraising for terminally ill children. It really is all about giving back to those who need it and the Make A Wish Foundation is dear to so many peoples hearts.'
Since its inception in 1992, the Make A Wish Foundation has aimed to grant the wishes of children aged between three and 17 years who are living with lifethreatening medical conditions. They provide memories of joy and laughter in difficult times for families.
Bridget said: 'We hope the night will be a great success and the money raised will be staying as local as possible which is fantastic.' The Cabaret night takes place in the Dolmen Hotel on Saturday, January 26. Doors open at 9pm and admission is €10.
