Man convicted of multiple public order offences

A man was fined a total of ?590 at the district court on Wednesday for public order offences. Aidan Farrington of 26 Great Southern, Athy was convicted and fined ?350 for failing to comply with the directions of a garda and ?90 for being intoxicated in public at Potato Market on September 2, 2007 and a further ?150 for theft at Fairgeen shopping centre on August 31,2007.

Aidan Farrington of 26 Great Southern, Athy was convicted and fined ?350 for failing to comply with the directions of a garda and ?90 for being intoxicated in public at Potato Market on September 2, 2007 and a further ?150 for theft at Fairgeen shopping centre on August 31,2007.

His case had been adjourned to Wednesday's sitting for the completion of a probation officer's report.

His solicitor Michelle Treacy told the court that her client had been through a difficult period when the incidences occurred and had shown genuine remorse.

He was living rough at the time, he was in a very bad situation,' she said. She added that he was now back living with his mother and providing her with 24 hour care.

Judge William Harnett was told that Farrington has been attending alcohol dependency courses but was not yet permanently off drink.

He would want to seriously think off staying off permanently,' said Judge Harnett. Alcohol aggravates depression.'
