Impressive line-up for Eigse 2012
EIGSE 2012 begins in just over two weeks, and the GB Shaw Theatre is preparing to play host to chanteuse Camille O'sullivan, comedian Pat Shortt, a mesmerizing stage play of Great Expectations, The Nualas, Opera Theatre Company's Orfeo, Pierce Turner, and highly-acclaimed Korean pianist Young- Choon Park .
Meanwhile, in the main galleries of VISUAL, an enormously ambitious installation by artist Brian Duggan is beginning to take shape. Brian is in the process of building a full-scale timber barn from 1890s Wyoming with a rollerskate rink inside. Visitors are invited to skate in costume while there will also be a performance by The Niall Toner Band.
Of course Eigse 2012 also spreads beyond the walls of VISUAL, and the Rubberbandits, Paul Brady, and David Mcsavage are all set to perform over the course of the festival.
Then in Rathvilly The History Festival of Ireland in Lisnavagh House includes speakers such as David Norris, Kevin Myers, Manchan Magan, Ruth Dudley Edwards, Myles Dungan and others.
And finally in Borris, The Borris House Hay Festival brings a stellar line up of speakers: Mike Scott from the Waterboys, Stephen Frears (director of The Van, The Queen, Dangerous Liasons), Colm Toibin, John Banville, Anne Enright, Kerry Hardie, Marina Carr, UK journalists Craig Brown, Ben Anderosn, Lionel Shriver, pulpit philosopher AC Grayling, bestselling novelist Katie Hickman and John Lloyd, the man behind Spitting Image, Blackadder, Not the Nine O'clock News and QI.
