Gardai search uncovers €40,000 worth of cocaine

MORE THAN €40,000 worth of cocaine was discovered by Gardai in Carlow on Friday evening after a car and motorbike were stopped and searched.

Following on from information the car and bike were searched at Clonmelsh as part of an ongoing operation in to the sale and supply of drugs in the Carlow area.

Three people were arrested and detained at Carlow Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

One of those arrested is a male in his early 40s from the Carlow area who Gardai described as 'a significant player in the local drugs scene'. The second man arrested is in his 30s and is from the Midlands area while the third is a juvenile.

The drugs were discovered concealed in the vehicles.

'It was another major haul for the drugs unit,' said a spokesman for Carlow Gardai.
