PLANS ARE BEING finalised for the fleadh in Leighlinbridge to be held this weekend.
The fleadh opens on Friday night with a concert featuring popular Kilkenny musicians Tommy Lannigan, Anthony Mcauley and Paddy Cleere. A special treat will be the appearance of Jim Maher who is a renowned storyteller, comedian and bodhraniste. This takes place in Meaneys lounge at 9pm with € 10 admission.
There are competitions in music and song from 11am on Saturday in the local primary school while legendary dance teacher Mairead Casey will conduct a Sean- Nos Dance workshop in the Parish Centre at 3pm. Admission here is just € 5.
Singers get their chance to exercise their lungs in ' O Braonain's in the traditional singers club at 8pm followed by sessions in Kelly's and The Garrison at 9.30pm.
On Sunday, the fun moves to The Lord Bagenal where the huge success of last year's ' Fleadh BBQ' will be repeated between 3pm and 5pm. Relax on the banks of the Barrow and savour good food and brilliant music.
While the craic continues outdoors, there will be an exhibition of photos taken during last year's fleadh by some very talented photographers and beautifully mounted for this special display. The fleadh winds down with two further sessions in Rainbows at 6pm and Kelly's at 9pm.
Local musicians and singers are already eagerly anticipating the arrival of many visiting artistes for this amazing event and everyone is welcome to come along to play, sing, tap feet or just listen.
