Don't miss 'Twisted Moments'
THERE WILL be two shows by Carlow Youth Theatre performed today (Tuesday) in the GB Shaw Theatre.
Carlow Local Authorities Arts Office over the last 10 years has built an established reputation for the arts which have included the management of County Carlow Youth Theatre. This initiative involves over 60 young people from Carlow town and surrounding areas between the ages of 10 - 18 year olds. It is a model of community youth art engagement that does not compromise in striving for artistic excellence whilst being great fun for young people. Weekly workshops are held in both Carlow town and Tullow and facilitated by professional youth theatre leaders. Young people are taught how many valuable skills which assist in confidence building as well as skills to perform on stage.
To celebrate this there will be two shows taking place at 7pm and at 8.3-pm. During the day local schools will visit the Gbshaw Theatre to watch the performances.
If you wish to become a member or get involved in this initiative come along on Tuesday evening and see for yourself what the young people of Carlow are doing. "Carlow Youth Theatre was established in 2000 by the arts office and has grown from strength to strength - there are weekly sessions open to all abilities and we very much welcome any young person to join the youth theatres - they just need to contact the arts office in the council. Participation locally in the arts is very important and nurturing young talent through the arts that is accessible and fun whilst teaching new skills is what Youth Theatre is all about. There are no auditions, you do not have to have had any previous experience - just come along and join in" Sinead Dowling, Arts Officer.
Maggie Gallagher is the facilitator of Carlow Youth Theatre and said the plays were devised by the young people themselves. ' The first is at 7pm - it is called ' What's On Your Mind?' and has a big audience interaction element to it. 'I sit and watch and watch the world go by. People busy, busy rushing through their lives. So I take a moment to see what's on your mind ... your dreams and desires, your most hidden fears ... Want to see? Press PLAY
' The second play is from 8.30pm called ' Twisted Moments of Ordinary Lives' Again the show was written by the group and the attached poster was created by one of the older group. It looks at themes of power, greed and the consequences your actions have on others.
'Let me tell you a story of some ordinary people with ordinary lives in an ordinary world living ordinary lies.
'Give me a moment of your time, add a twist of lime, I'll shake up a cocktail of ordinary slime.'
