Commercial vacancy rate drops in County Carlow

The latest quarterly figures published by GeoDirectory have shown that Carlow is one of only two counties nationwide to record a decrease in commercial vacancy rates.
The figures show that in the second quarter of 2014, 373 of the 2,851 commercial addresses recorded in Carlow were vacant, meaning that the overall commercial vacancy rate has dropped from 13.2% to 13.1%.
Although it seems like a tiny percentage, the figures will be welcomed by Carlow Local Authorities who have been striving to attract more businesses and encourage new business across the county in recent months. The only other county to record a decrease in the survey was Kerry which also recorded a decrease of 0.1%.
Despite the fact that Carlow was one of two counties to record a decrease, the county's commercial vacancy is still above the national rate of 12.6%. However, Carlow is still some way off the worst with Sligo recording a commercial vacancy rate of 16% followed by Leitrim with 15.5% and Galway with 14.8%.
