A NEW service for older people in Carlow is proving popular just months after it was launched.

Run through Carlow County Development Partnership in conjunction with Age Action Ireland, Care and Repair, provides two services.

A Repair Service that caters for small handy jobs and a friendly call service offered by the contact team who make a phone call at a pre-arranged time each week.

The repair service caters for small repairs and minor house hold works by a team of Garda Vetted handypersons participating on the TÚS Programme.

This is a free service and clients only pay for the materials used.

A third project is now being run under the scheme. Carlow Care and Repair has joined forces with Carlow Lions Club to help promote the Message in a Bottle project.

This scheme aims to encourage older people living alone and those who are housebound to keep their basic personal and medical details in one common place so in an emergency they can be easily found.

Since July the Care and Repair Team have completed over 700 jobs for older people countywide while the Contact team liaise with over 140 older people by phone on a weekly basis.

Both services are receiving extremely positive feedback from clients who feel confident and secure in using Care and Repair. One Carlow woman commented on how safe she feels using the service as she knows the team have been Garda Vetted.
