A CARLOW woman is on a mission to rebrand Carlow as ' The Love Capital of Ireland'.
After surveying 160 visitors to the county, Joan Regan from the Tullow Road has developed a new image for Carlow.
'73.1% of visitors and tourists to Carlow are in agreement according to a survey by the IT Carlow studen, for her dissertation on destination branding, which formed part of her studies for a Master of Business. The research found also that 96.2% would recommend the development of a tourism app for Carlow.
Currently working in the Companies Registration Office, Joan said she would like to work in the area of tourism in the future. She has high praise for IT Carlow and the range of courses available though the Life Long Learning Programme.
'In specific areas like accessibility and friendliness and in overall satisfaction ratings as a holiday destination, Carlow scored mainly in the 'very satisfied' to 'extremely satisfied' range,' she said.
' The county also rated highly when visitors were asked about their likelihood to return and recommend the county.'
The research covered sites and venues across the county and in total 160 visitors were surveyed over a seven-week period between March and May this year.
As part of her work, Joan has commissioned a visual branding of 'Carlow The Love Capital of Ireland' and this is trade mark pending.
Asked how she had come up with the idea of re-branding Carlow, Joan said:
'I had to come up with something quirky and this came to me when I was driving home to Kerry.
'Carlow's shape is like a distorted heart and you have the garden and walking trails, the golf, the mountains and the flowers.
'I thought this could be an umbrella theme for all of the businesses to co ordinate under, not just golden years or Valentines but for packages for mothers and daughters and so much more.'
