IT WAS announced this week that €100,000 in funding is to be granted for the restoration and repair of protected structures across County Carlow.
The funding is to be granted to a total of twelve buildings and structures under the Build Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014. The move is one which has been welcomed by Carlow based Fine Gael TD Pat Deering.
'Carlow County Council has confirmed to me that 12 Carlow buildings and structures are to benefit from grant aid this year,' said Deputy Deering. 'The purpose of this fund is to ensure that works take place to safeguard structures protected under the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2011. This can include structures within Architectural Conservation Areas.'
Deputy Deering said that it was a win-win situation, both in terms of protecting buildings of cultural significance and creating jobs. 'It's crucially important that we protect and conserve our heritage buildings,' he said.
