Spar has announced that Carlow Muaythai Gym will be a recipient of its 'Helping Hand Community Fund', a nationwide campaign aimed at supporting stand out community groups and clubs. Olympic hero Katie Taylor was on hand to congratulate the gym on their success and present them with a cheque for €1,000.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of Carlow Muaythai Gym, Sean Dillon said, 'We are delighted to accept this funding which recognises our role in the local community and which will go a long way in helping us to provide this worthwhile service.

We would like to thank SPAR for their generosity and all those who voted for us as part of the process.'

Founded in 1991, the gym teaches the martial art of Muaythai boxing in a safe and fun environment.

The gym is open to all age groups with the youngest member being just five and the oldest 44 years old.
