JANUARY: Christmas Day Swim/Walk Twenty five swimmers and one hundred walkers took part in the 19th annual Swim/Walk in aid of Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team. Paul McCullagh Congratulations to Paul McCullagh, Leighlinbridge, who graduated from Carlow IT recently, with a Degree in Engineering.
Paul is a great example of positive thinking and "get up and go". He went back to college as a mature student, having started the course initially when he lost his job during the financial crisis and continued at night classes when he became employed again. . Removal of Paper Banks Cllr. Denis Foley recently announced that the paper banks at the McGrath Hall will be removed from the site in the coming weeks.
Bagenalstown to fly the flag for Carlow in Co Operation Ireland Pride of Place Competition 2012. Co Operation Ireland is a 32 County cross border initiative. Each year Carlow Local Authorities select a community to represent our county and this year Bagenalstown has the honour of flying the flag for Carlow.
National Pride of Place Competition
As part of Bagenalstown's entry in the National Pride of Place Competition a number of the committee members are undertaking a local history project. The idea is to assemble a visual and text based presentation of the history of Bagenalstown.
Pope John Paul 11 Awards Congratulations to last year's Pope John Paul 11 Awards candidates who received their awards at a ceremony in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow, on March 2. The recipients of a Gold Award were Vicky Nolan, Ciara Nolan, Leanne Dermody, Patrick Robinson, Shauna Fitzpatrick, Marianne Galpo and Michelle Bridgette. The recipients of the Papal Cross Award (the highest achievement in the award) were Aoife Maher, Donnacha Murphy and Sean Kinsella. As part of the proceedings, message of congratulations was read from President Michael D. Higgins. Congratulations also to Pamela Whelan, Parish Pastoral Minister, who facilitated the young candidates. St. Patrick's Day Parade This year's the St. Patrick's Day Parade was the biggest to date. Over forty entries comprising walking groups and floats took part in the parade which was completed before the rain came down.

Congratulations Pat It was a well deserved win when Borris musician Pat Byrne was named Voice of Ireland.
He has an amazing voice, presents as a charming and unassuming young man and is a great credit to his parents, family and County Carlow.
Mary is honoured by Irish Hospice Foundation.
At a recent function in the Mansion House, Dublin, Mary Foster, Kilree Street, Bagenalstown, was one of eleven people honoured by the Irish Hospice Foundation when she was named one of the Irish Pride Sunflower Heroes 2012 for her outstanding contribution to the local Home Care Team. Our Carlow Rose Congratulations to Bagenalstown girl, Marian Hynes, daughter of Denis and Joan, 6 Conway Park, who was selected as the Carlow Rose in the Mt. Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, on May 6. Pitch and Putt Club This was a great week for the Bagenalstown club as Patrick Robinson, one of the club's promising young players, brought home a Leinster title. Patrick spent the weekend in Glenville Pitch and Putt Club in Dublin competing in the Leinster Junior Matchplay Championships
Pride of Place 'We came as strangers and left as friends' were the words spoken by the two Co-operation Ireland judges who spent the afternoon in Bagenalstown on Thursday June 21, judging the town's entry in the 32 county Pride of Place Competition 2012. Karate squad On Wednesday, June 20, the Irish Karate Squad visited President Michael D. Higgins at Aras an Uachtarain. This year the IKAW has 29 members representing Ireland in the 8th WKC World Karate Championships for children, juniors and cadets travelling to Siauliai in Lithuania.
This year Bagenalstown has five competitors representing their town. They are Danielle O'Neill, Eve Sinnott, Jamie Campbell, and brothers David and Philip Lonergan.
Congratulations to Dean Egan who now has his own banter show in KCLR. Dean is one of the Ventures with 2nd Carlow/Bagenalstown Scouts and recently won the title of Bagenalstown Young Person of the Year. Bagenalstown Festival Despite the current economic climate good crowds turned out last week-end for the River Festival in Bagenalstown.

Town Park Bagenalstown Improvement Group is delighted to see that the new play area is enjoyed and appreciated by parents and children of the town and beyond. The Group would like to thank, most sincerely, Cllr. Tommy Bambrick, who opens and closes the park every day voluntarily, which is very much appreciated
Congratulations to Jason Clarke who was picked to represent Ireland at the Motor Cross of Nation Championship in England on October 20. He was selected on his fine run of form in the Irish Championship.

PINK RIBBON DAY
A total of €2,900 was raised for Bagenalstown branch Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team, thanks to collectors who volunteered and all who donated. . Well Done to Oisin Dillon who recently came second in the Cross Country Championships - a great achievement.
Bagenalstown wins top award Congratulations to everyone involved in Bagenalstown CoOperation Pride of Place 2012 on winning the top national award at the annual Pride of Place Competition held in Thomond Park Stadium, Limerick, on Sat. Nov. 3. Annual Dance The Co Carlow Association in Birmingham held their 51st Annual Dinner and Dance in the Westley Hotel Birmingham recently where a crowd of 120 people enjoyed a good night out with relatives and friends catching up with all the gossip from at home and abroad.
Savings Bank Bagenalstown FRC Savings Bank Committee was very pleased by the huge turnout and the success of the Savings Scheme which started four years ago. It is managed and run by local voluntary effort. The committee gave out a six figure sum this week in savings as many more families save a little each week even in difficult economic times.
