ARE YOU WINTER READY?

If Ireland gets another severe winter are you ready?

If your water pipes froze during last winter have you insulated them properly since; have you moved them further underground to protect your water supply and have you put a plastic bag filled with straw over your stopcock located on the footpath outside your house to prevent it from freezing? NO - then you risk loosing your water supply this winter if there is a hard freeze.

You (not Carlow County Council) are responsible for your water supply from the stopcock at the footpath back to your home. Be Winter Ready.

See information on the website - www.winterready.ie which gives valuable information in the form of a household check list. Many of the local shops are stocking rock salt and granulated salt in 5kg and 25kg bags at reasonable prices.

WALKING TRACK

Like just about everyone else in my age group, I've become concerned about the growing mid rift I've put on over the past few months. I've indulged in too many cakes, buns, biscuits and chocolate of late and I need to loose 10kg or thereabouts. So where better to start my weight reduction programme than at the new walking track at Bro. Leo Park on the Ballymurphy Road. Padraig Murphy emailed me about a new walking club on Saturday mornings and I went along to check it out. In case you don't know anything about the walking track – it is approximately 950 metres long and is an all-weather track open to all residents to Tullow. I had several lady companions on the first round of the track who were a lot fitter than me and took the track in their stride. I switched from ordinary shoes to my gym shoes for the second round and I was joined by Padraig Murphy who told me about the new walking club which will meet every Saturday morning around 11.00 a.m. commencing Saturday week January 23. I didn't get to do a third round of the track – sure you can't be doing it all the first day!
