The Carers Association is calling on locals across Carlow to recognise the dedication and enormous contribution of Carlow's 2,000 family carers.
Recently launched by patron of The Carers Association and broadcaster Mary Kennedy, The Carers of the Year Awards and Young Carer of the Year Award 2013 celebrate the commitment of family carers.
There are over 2,000 family carers in Carlow providing unpaid care in the home each week to frail older people, those terminally ill and with disabilities. Family carers across Ireland save the health budget over four billion euro each year
'We urge the public across Ireland and Carlow to nominate their chosen family carer.' said Catherine Cox, The Carers Association.
All entrants will receive a commemorative certificate with the National Carer of the Year and Young Carer of the Year 2013 being announced at a special ceremony in November.
Application forms are available from Carer's Association Resource Centres nationwide, from the free-phone careline on 1800 240724, or on www.carersireland.com . The closing date for nominations is Friday, September 27.
