There was a good turn-out for the 19th annual general meeting of Leighlin Parish Community Alert. Under any other business a number of issues were raised. Quite some time was devoted to the closure of the Garda Station since it will be the first time since 1922 that Leighlinbridge will be without the presence of a Garda. It is a cause of concern and worry for the locals in view of the spate of breakins that have taken place in recent times.
Further discussion took place on the recent introduction in some areas of a texting network. It is working well according to Gardai Michael Sloyan and Annette Phelan who attended the meeting. The reinstatement of the full grant towards the installation of emergency response units was welcomed by the committe.
The following officers were elected: Chairman, Martin Nevin; Vice-Chairman, James Campbell; Sectary/Treasurer, Patrick Roche. Committee: Mary Hanly, John Walsh, Terence Farrell, Ber Landy, Paddy Farrell, Paddy Kelly, Cllr. Michael Doran & Mary Hanly,
