Kileshin National School - a big 'thank you'

A HUGE 'thank' you to all the Brilliant parents/grandparents/relatives in Killeshin National School who supported the "Daffodil Coffee Morning" on Friday last, March 28.

This year they raised €5 92.50 in less than one hour, so congratulations again, you should all be very proud of yourselves and your families for your continued support every year.

The winning numbers for Monday, March 24 were...8 9 18 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. Match 2 x Match 3 received €75.

Tickets may be purchased from the Club, Flower Shop Fairgreen, and Riverside Stores in Hanover.

Next week's jackpot will be €3,200. The draw takes place every Monday night in Teach Asca at 9.00pm.

Please note that Juvenile training commenced on Sat March 22 in Pairc Uí Bhriain, at 11am. If you have not registered yet you can still do so on Saturday morning. All newcomers welcome.

Also Bingo every Thursday night starting at 8.30pm. Live band music every Saturday night in the lounge with no cover charge.


Line Dancing is starting in Askea Parish Community Centre every Monday from 8.30pm to 10pm. Beginners welcome.


Gaelic Football training for Mixed U10 team and Girls U12 team takes place in Eire Og from 12 – 1pm each Saturday.

Please bring gum shields and water. Area Athletics training commences on Friday, April 11, from 6 to 7pm and will continue weekly at the St Laurence O'Toole track.

The first performance of John B. Keane's play Big Maggie 'as Gaeilge' was staged recently in the G.B. Shaw Theatre by Carlow's Irish language drama group Aisteoirí an Lóchrainn. For those who did not get to the performance in the theatre there is another opportunity to see Maggie Mhór when it will be staged in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál hall, Green Lane on Saturday, 5th April at 8.00pm.

Speaking Irish

Céad míle fáilte to Gaeilge Le Chéile in Reddys on Thursday, 3rd April, when Irish speakers and learners will get together for the monthly informal social gathering.

Why not drop in from 9.00pm and share the conversation 'as Gaeilge'.

ICA meeting

Tinryland ICA monthly meeting will take place on Wednesday 2nd April at 7.30pm in Parish Hall. Guest speaker will attend. New members always welcome.

Community alert

Palatine Community Alert: The First AGM of Palatine Community Alert will be held at Palatine House on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 8pm.

All members of the scheme are urged to attend and renewal of annual subscription will be accepted on the night.

New members are welcome to attend and enrol.

'A Phone 4 A Life'. My name is Aisling Whelan and I am a past pupil of Killeshin N.S, I would like to ask for your support in a new mobile phone recycling initiative I am doing (in conjunction with the 'Jack and Jill' children's charity) which will provide Killeshin School/Community with a free lifesaving DEFIBRILLATOR, all I need is your old mobile phone,(all mobile phones are wiped and cleared of all information/data by the charity) I need 400 old mobile phones in order to get the defibrillator, you can drop your phone into Killeshin school, Killeshin shop, put it through my letterbox or I can collect them.

Thanking you for your support it could save a life someday.

Senior citizens

Askea Senior Citizens' Easter Party will take place on Sunday 13th April in Seven Oaks Hotel at 2pm. Names must be in by the end of March. Contact Marian at 059 9143010.

Cleared fines

County Carlow Library services are inviting the people of Carlow to make a 'clean sweep' of library fines during National Spring Clean.

National Spring Clean runs for the month of April, and the staff at Carlow Library service, are encouraging all of you to return your outstanding library books...FINE any of the four library branches including Carlow, Tullow, Bagenalstown & Borris during the month of April, you will be in with a chance of winning a prize!!!!


an Anti-Pylon public meeting takes place on Wednesday 16th April at 8pm in The Lord Bagenal Hotel, Leighlinbridge.

Speakers will include Padraig O'Reilly – North East Pylon Pressure (NEPP); Robert Duggan – Pylon Alternative Alliance (PAA); Kay Brophy – Carlow Opposing Pylons 4U(COP4U). The meeting will be followed by a Questions and Answer Session.

Organised by the Carlow Opposing Pylons 4 You (COP4U) on behalf of local Carlow Anti-pylon groups.
